Friday - Meet at Gondolas at 5:30 pm
Saturday - Meet at Beatitudes Parking lot by 5:45 am. Bus leaves promptly at 6:00 am, no exceptions.

Decathlon Team Update

Please take note of the following changes to our practice schedule:
1.Beginning March 9th we will be meeting everyday after school. That is March 9, 10, 11 and 12th. No meeting on the 13th - that is blow it off at Gondola's Day!!! Please do not schedule any Dr. or Dentist appointments that week. Please alert coaches your child will not be at practice that week. (believe me they understand)

2. We will be having another parent meeting as soon as I can confirm the receipt of the wristbands so we can pass them out and discuss lunch for the day of the event.

3. Saturday February 28th we will be meeting at Bon Jour Bagel until 10 am. Parents please have questions ready regarding your childs individual subject next tuesday so we can quiz them. I have met individually with some of the students and given them certain areas to focus on, please follow up with them.

4. Saturday March 7th we will be meeting at my home (address to follow) to view a program on Monet and study individual subjects from 7-10 am.

5. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! TO all parents who sent in yummy baked goods for our bake sale. We made $396.00!! It was a great success!

So again, please take some time to sit down with your student to go over their individual subjects and Civil rights subjects that is where they are lacking the most at this point!

ONCE again thanks to all for your dedication to your students continued success!

Decathlon Activities Update

The team will be taking another team picture tomorrow (2/13) so they need to wear their khakis and their burgundy polo shirts. The sweatshirts are in and they loooooook great!! Our children are going to look very sharp on the day of the event.

Saturday's session will be held at Leticia Hernandez's house. All decathletes are expected to bring their logic quiz packets and individual subject cards.

The carwash for this coming Saturday is cancelled because of the rain.

We are having a bake sale next week - Thursday and the following Tuesday. Please send baked goods such as cookies or brownies with your child on that day. Our goal is to raise some $$ to offset the cost of the thanksgiving lunch for the decathletes.

Please confirm your decathlete's attendance for the Norton Simon field trip to Cecile. We are trying to get sponsorship from Millies for their breakfast.

One month to go and the days sure are going by fast. Please keep encouraging your child. We all know that being on the team is just one of their many many activities.. We also know that being on the decathlon is preparing them for the road ahead by learning how to manage their time effectively and knowing how to be a part of the team. These are great skillsets to develop; all requirements to be in corporate America and beyond.

God Bless and thank you for your continued support of our children and the Beatitudes of Our Lord School!!

No Bake Sale Tomorrow 2/6

Dear Parents we will not be having our bake sale tomorrow 2/6/2009, we ran out of time to get notices put to parents etc. and decided that it would be better to hold the sale on a day other than a Friday so we could sell at both snack and lunch.

We have decided to do this on the 18th and 24th of February pending My. Payette's approval. We will need all parents to please send in an item on both days rather than the 4 and 4 as previously planned. Since we will be selling at snack and lunch we want to have plenty to sell.

Send your baked or store bought items with your children the morning of the 18th and the 24th. We truly appreciate your help in this I was told today that the school is out of money and so as mentioned before it will be up to us now to get the kids the recognition they deserve for all their hard work!(Appreciation luncheon, etc.)

We will be meeting Saturday morning at Bon Jour Bagel Cafe at 7:00 am Team members please bring the logic packages you were given today and your cards. Here is my cell if you have any further questions. Coach Denise 562-631-1537

Thursday Practice Requirememts

From Coach Denise:

So there is no confusion for Thursday here is a recap for decathaletes and parents.
FOR THURSDAY ALL TEAM MEMBERS ARE TO HAVE PREPARED THE FOLLOWING:
20 cards on Monet - 10 on his life and 10 on his paintings, to include name of painting year painted and where.
5 cards on each subject you have been assigned for the civil rights movement
20 cards on your individual subject

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THESE PREPARED DO NOT COME ON THURSDAY GO HOME AND COMPLETE THEM.
I understand that these are long days for you after being in school all day and studying in school, but we are only one month away and we have been doing this since October and I don't understand why no one is prepared with all their cards on their subjects.  Those of you who do have cards they are not concise and the questions are not thought provoking or thorough.  PARENTS please help your children prepare for their individual subjects, we have been focusing on Logic these past eight weeks and they were to be focusing on their individual subjects on their own. 75% of the class were unprepared today.  We coaches are devoting as much time and energy as possible to this but we can't do it all. The team needs to take personal responsibility for their individual subjects.  If any parent has time to devote this week and next to helping in the individual subject areas now is the time to devote to us.  You can look over their cards and see if they are understanding their subject. We want them all to succeed but after today I am not feeling very confident on the individual subjects, I hope I am wrong. Again any time you can devote in the next two weeks would be very much appreciated, there is only one of me and 10 of them.  Please call me if you can help or have any questions. Practice Information for Saturday and Information about the Norton Simon Museum Field Trip

Practice will be held at Leticia Hernandez's house this coming Saturday beginning at 7:00 am. Your decathlete should be prepared for the Monet Pop Quiz and bring completed index cards for their individual subjects as well as their Logic Packages. I will be emailing Leticia's Home address tonight.

Please save the date! March 1, Sunday is the Norton Simon Field Trip. We will be attending the 8:45 am mass. Denise will be going to the rectory tomorrow to ask that Father bless our Decathletes during mass. We will be eating breakfast at Millie's right after that and make our way to Pasadena for the Norton Simon visit. This is a great team bonding opportunity as well as a fun activity. They have been diligently studying during their lunch breaks, Tuesdays, Thursdays as well as Saturdays. Please send $$ for breakfast with your child as well as a sack lunch. Parents are more than welcome to attend this field trip -- we need to all bond as well :)

The kids are now almost in the home stretch. Your continued support is very much appreciated!

Update: Snacks for tomorrow's session - We need Help

Thank you to Debbie Santana and Rosselle Quion for contacting me about snacks for tomorrow. Rosselle "won" the snack duel and will be bringing pizza for the kids tomorrow.

Also my apologies. I got the wrong information about who brought the snack yesterday. Thank you Mrs. Hueth!!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just found out yesterday that the person assigned to bring snacks for this week is no longer on the team. Our special thanks to Michelle Sanchez for bringing snacks yesterday in a pinch. Can we get another volunteer for tomorrow? I know we have a couple of families that may not have had a week assigned to them. Please let Cecile (310)502.3504 by 3pm if you can bring snacks for the Thursday, 1/26 session.

Many thanks and God Bless!

Need Help for solving Logic Quizzes for this coming Week's practice!!

Parents we are in need of help this coming week for the Logic Portion of the Super Quiz!!

If anyone is available to help we have about 3 problems that we are stumped on. Even if you could help me understand them so I can then help the team it would be greatly appreciated.

The team members have the logic packages and the problems we are stumped on are as follows: The Long Word, The High Suit, Multiples of Seven. Although the book gives explainations of how to solve we are having trouble understanding the reason they give on how to solve.
